The People Have Spoken: The New Monopoly Tokens Are In !

Monopoly-owner Hasbro has revealed their new tokens ahead of World Monopoly on March 19. As part of their "Monopoly Token Madness" campaign, the company asked fans to vote on which eight tokens should be part of the next iteration of the game.

After 4 million fans submitted their votes on more than 50 options, the three original pieces -- the thimble, boot, and wheelbarrow -- will be replaced by the T-Rex, rubber ducky, and penguin tokens this fall. The final cut also includes the Scottie dog, top hat, cat, race car, and battleship.

“The next generation of tokens clearly represents the interests of our fans around the world, and we’re proud to have our iconic game impacted by the people that feel most passionate about playing it,” Jonathan Berkowitz, senior vice president of marketing for Hasbro Gaming said in a statement.

The original board game was released during the Great Depression in 1933 and featured 20 different tokens. The last time a token that was dropped and a new one was added was in 2013, when the iron was replaced by cat.
