Major Joe Masi of the Richland County Sheriff's Department has informed the Commissioners that the Richland County Jail is overcrowded. RichlandSource.com reports the Jail currently has 301 inmates and its bed capacity is for only 234. Masi said every inmate has a mattress or plastic bed to sleep on. The jail averages $33,000 per month for inmate meals.
