Rob Lowe In Talks To Star In Joe Exotic Adaptation From Ryan Murphy

The Comedy Central Roast Of Rob Lowe - Show

Most of us are familiar with the recent Netflix documentary Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, which follows big cat zoo owner Joe Exotic as he spirals out of control and ends up embroiled in a murder-for-hire plot, as well as multiple other alleged crimes that landed him in prison for 22 years. The documentary's runaway success has inspired two upcoming scripted adaptations of the true crime story.

According to Deadline, Ryan Murphy has his sights set on developing a scripted series based on Joe Exotic. Little is known about the project at this time, however, Rob Lowe teases his potential involvement on social media this week. "Rob Exotic. UPDATE: Ryan Murphy and I will be developing our version of this insane story. Stay tuned!" Lowe wrote on Instagram alongside a series of photos depicting him dressed up as Joe Exotic.

Though the talks are preliminary right now, this collaboration would actually make a ton of sense. Not only does Lowe currently star in 9-1-1: Lone Star, which was co-created by Murphy, but Murphy has an overall deal with Netflix. As we all know, the original Tiger King documentary aired on Netflix. Lowe is being eyed to star was the eccentric zoo owner.

The other scripted Tiger King series has been in the works for some time now. Back in November 2019, Deadline also reported that Kate McKinnon had signed on to play Carole Baskin in a mini-series based on the true-crime tale, as well as executive produce the project. Universal Content Productions, which also created the true-crime mini-series Dirty John, was reportedly developing the series for an unnamed network at the time. Few other details about that adaptation are currently known.
