HBO Exec's Explanation For Samantha's 'Sex & The City' Absence Is Too Real

Sex and The City's HBO Max reboot will proceed without Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall, and the network's chief content officer Casey Bloys spoke with TVLine about how they will deal with Jones' absence from the revival.

Sarah Jessica Parker and exec producer Michael Patrick King are the creative brains behind the upcoming reboot and Bloys insisted that the two aren't "they’re not trying to re-do Sex and the City." "They’re not trying to say that these characters are reliving their 30s. It is very much a story about women in their 50s, and they are dealing with things that people deal with in their 50s," he explained.

Part of that new era in their lives includes friendships, too, as Bloys explained that "just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave."

"Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life… They’re trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50," he continued.

As you know, Cattrall has been vocal about her disinterest in joining a reboot of the show for years. Meanwhile, Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis will reprise their roles as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York. The revival will consist of 10 half-hour episodes that follow the trio as they navigate love and friendship in their fifties.
