Reese Witherspoon is shutting down rumors that she and Kate Winslet had a "falling out."
If you recall, Witherspoon shared that she presented an award to another actress — who she did not reveal the identity of — and revealed they were no longer friends after the embarrassing speech, during a recent interview with PEOPLE. She recalled, "So this friend of mine who I didn't really know that well but she was this very serious proper actress. And she asked me to give her an award. But I'd never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her. The tone was British and elegant and classy, and I was like 'remember the time we got laser hair removal.'"
She added, "I'm still embarrassed about it. We're not even friends anymore. I'm not even kidding. We're not friends anymore. I don't think she likes me anymore. I thought it was so funny, but I just had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad...She doesn't even talk to me anymore."
After the interview, fans got to work on the internet to try and figure out who Reese was referring to, and ultimately speculated that Reese was talking about Kate Winslet after rinding a speech the Legally Blonde actress gave at the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards in 2007.
Taking to her Instagram stories after catching wind of everyone's guess, Witherspoon wrote, "Hey guys .. just spoke to my very dear friend for years, Kate W. We laughed about this stupidity. Please do not believe the internet. We are good friends and have never had any falling out." She added on another slide, "This is completely UNTRUE ... so silly!"
