Shelby Impressive, 5 Players with TDs, in Opening Night Win at Madison

The Shelby Whippets were impressive on opening night of the high school football season on Friday, as they rolled past Madison, 56-14, in front of a big crowd at Ram Field at Startek Stadium.

The Whippets racked up 22 first downs and saw 5 different guys find the endzone on the night. Brayden Devito accounted for 4 TDs, 3 passing and 1 rushing. Devito had over 260 yards of offense in just over two quarters of action.

Gavin Baker rushed for over 60 yards and two touchdowns (12 yards and 3 yards).

Brady Bowman hauled in two scores and showed off his speed from 49 yards and 36 yards out.

Michael Shepherd made a big impact as he knocked the ball away from Madison's QB on the 1st play from scrimmage, which the Whippets recovered and Shepherd then moments later caught the game's 1st TD.

Shelby fans and football fans were introduced to star freshman Luke Blevins in the 3rd quarter, as he showed incredible speed, vision and power, when he ran a man over and plowed into the endzone for a 17 yard touchdown.

Hunter Oney played very well on Shelby's defensive line to help Shelby to their 14th straight regular season win and 10th in a row over Madison.

The Rams got TD runs from Kaleb Gordon and Colton Adkins. (Aired 8/22/25 with Aaron Hines and Erik Will)
