On 9-20-2025 at approximately 8:25 pm both officers on duty were dispatched to a reported domestic violence situation on the north side of the city.

As officers were responding, a separate 911 call came in on the south side of the city for a female caller stating her Ex-Boyfriend armed with a rifle was actively attempting to break into her home where her current boyfriend and 9 year old child were also present.

Lt. Keegan continued to the north end call as Officer Wireman was diverted to the sound end call. Deputies from the Crawford County Sheriffs Office were requested to respond for assistance.

Upon arrival, Officer Wireman located the male later identified as Daniel Hammond age 33 of Bucyrus still actively attempting to get into the residence at the front door. He immediately gave Hammond commands to get on the ground to which he initially complied. Upon arrival of deputies he was placed into custody without incident. A loaded .50 caliber hunting rifle was located in the yard near Hammond.

Upon attempting to transfer Hammond from a BPD cruiser to a deputies cruiser for transport to the Crawford County Justice Center, Hammond slipped his handcuffs to the front of his body and became physically combative, striking officers with his hands and feet.

Hammond was later transported to the Crawford County Justice Center to be held for the following charges:

Aggravated Burglary F-1

Domestic Violence M-1

Assault on a police officer F-4

This case has been sent to the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
