OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital Earns Third Energy Star Certification

MANSFIELD, Ohio –OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR© certification once again for superior energy performance. This is the third year the hospital has earned the ENERGY STAR®, reflecting a legacy of continued energy savings.

“Improving the energy efficiency of our nation’s buildings is critical to protecting our environment,” said Cindy Jacobs, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their buildings more efficient and earning EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification.”

ENERGY STAR® is the only energy efficiency certification in the United States that is based on actual, verified energy performance. Hospitals that receive this certification are verified to perform in the top 25% of buildings nationwide, based on weather-normalized source energy use that takes into account occupancy, hours of operation, and other key metrics.

Mansfield Hospital’s sustainability efforts continue to grow. The hospital building earned an ENERGY STAR® score of 83 this year, two points higher than last year. This means Mansfield Hospital is now more energy efficient than 83% of similar properties nationwide. Some of the hospital’s energy efficiency efforts over the last year include utilizing outside air cooling when available, lowering gas consumption through a modernized boiler system, and frequent review of the heating, cooling, and air system.

Mansfield Hospital is one of two OhioHealth hospitals to achieve ENERGY STAR® certification. For more information about ENERGY STAR for Buildings and Plants, click here.
