Mount Gilead Man, 43, Killed in Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash in Morrow County

Mount Gilead - The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 5:43 AM, on County Road 24 at County Road 228 in Peru Township, Morrow County.

Michael L. Petros, age 55 of Caledonia, Ohio, was operating a 2012 Honda Accord southeast bound on County Road 228. John A. Walker, age 43 of Mount Gilead, Ohio, was operating a 2017 Jeep Wrangler southwest bound on County Road 24.

Mr. Petros failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck by Mr. Walker. After impact, both vehicles traveled off the southwest corner of the intersection and Mr. Petros’ vehicle struck a tree. Mr. Walker was not wearing a seatbelt at the time the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene. Mr. Petros was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Morrow County EMS, Delaware County EMS, and the Elm Valley Fire Department. Alcohol/drugs are unknown factors in this crash. The crash remains under investigation. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds motorists to always wear a seatbelt while in a motor vehicle
