The new virtual, #SaferAtHome American Idol resumes this Sunday and Katy Perry couldn’t be prouder of the show. As fans are well aware, Idol had to halt production amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but will return this Sunday, April 26, virtually from Ryan Seacrest, Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and all of the contestants’ respective homes!
“These dreams are all real for these kids,” Katy shared on-air with Seacrest on Friday, April 24. “This is their actual one shot that they’re getting … and I think we put together something amazing so far. We’re going to continue to help nurture their dreams and … I’m really proud of this show,” she added. “[Of] the production, the producers … no offense, it’s not just like a show on Zoom.”
Katy explained that each contestant will have an equal opportunity too, all using the same equipment, microphones, etc. from home.
And Perry herself will be joining the show from home — or maybe even her car given it’s her safe place amid quarantine. The “Never Worn White” singer hilariously told Seacrest she was calling in from her car parked outside her house to find some peace and quiet.
“I’m just taking it one day at a time and I have a great partner I’m got my family around me,” Perry shared of her social-distancing experience. “I’m quarantining with my nieces and [family] … we’re all being very gentle with each other because we know it’s a stressful time, but I think we’ll look back at this time and we’ll have grown. … I’m literally sitting in a car right now,” she said. “It’s the only place I can go where I for certain won’t be interrupted — it’s like my little office and I know other families are going through the same thing.”
The songstress is also navigating her first pregnancy during this challenging time.
“It’s going to be interesting,” she admitted. “Every week that passes, it doesn’t necessarily get better. My thought is like, ‘OK, well, let’s review my options once again; what’s going on?’ I’m grateful I’m not due for a little while, it’s not tomorrow,” she shared. “If I was having to give birth this week in a hospital it would be interesting, it would be nerve-racking.”
