Did Taylor Swift's BBMAs Performance Rip Off Beyoncé's Performance?

If you came down with a case of deja vu while watching Taylor Swift open the 2019 Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday night, you're not alone. The pop star's being accused of ripping off Beyoncé's legendary 2018 Coachella performance thanks to her use of a drumline to kick off the show. "How dare Taylor Swift copy off of Beyoncé’sHomecomingwith the marching band!!!" one member of the Beyhive tweeted, referencing Bey's new Netflix documentary about her Coachella set. "Have some originality. You can be inspired, but don’t just straight-up copy it. If Homecoming wasn’t out, she would not have done this and we all know it." Another Queen Bey fan tweeted, "Someone kindly tell Taylor Swift she will never be Beyoncé. Please stop biting...it’s embarrassing." Others accused Swift of "whitewashing" and "gentrifying" Beyoncé's idea, as Swift's drumline appeared to feature fewer performers of color.
