Thirteen people, including the shooter, were killed and four injured when a longtime city employee opened fire on his co-workers at a municipal building in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Friday. CNN reports that the shooter has been identified as 40-year-old DeWayne Craddock, who had submitted his resignation to the public utilities department that day. He was fatally wounded in a lengthy shootout with police. “This is the most devastating day in the history of Virginia Beach,” Mayor Robert Dyer said at an evening news conference. The shooting reportedly occurred in a building adjacent to City Hall that houses offices for planning and public works personnel. Among the dead were four engineers who worked to maintain streets and protect wetlands and three right-of-way agents who reviewed property lines. Others included an account clerk, a technician, an administrative assistant, and a special projects coordinator.
