Natalie Portman will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but not just as Thor's love interest. In fact, this time she'll be the titular superhero. Portman confirmed the news this past Saturday with a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con. Before Portman took the stage, director Taika Waititi told the audience at a Marvel panel that "there's only one person" who could play the female Thor. The actress then took the stage and was handed a hammer. "This feels pretty good," she says. "I've always had a little hammer envy." Portman appeared as Jane Foster in the first two Thor films, but didn't appear in 2017's Thor: Ragnorak. However, footage of Portman in the summer blockbuster Avengers: Endgame spurred speculation that she would be returning to the franchise.
