No Purchase Necessary To Sit In Starbucks

While people are known for going to Starbucks as a place to hangout and get a cup of coffee, Starbucks just made a new policy that will allow anyone who comes into the store, regardless of them making a purchase, to sit and enjoy all the stores amenities including the restrooms.

Using Starbucks as a free WiFi spot was the norm for a variety of people, however the need for this new official policy came on the heels of a recent incident at a Philadelphia Starbucks. At this Starbucks two African American males (Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson) had been arrested for "trespassing" as they were waiting in the café for a friend that arrived shortly after the police had been called by Starbucks workers.

The incident went viral as it was recorded by people nearby, which thus prompted Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson to release a statement that rebuke the actions of those workers and call for a store closure for more than 8,000 stores to undertake racial bias training.

With this new policy and the upcoming training session, Starbucks hopes to create "a culture of warmth and belonging where everyone is welcome."
