CDC Warns 'Do Not Eat' Kellogg's Honey Smacks Cereal

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has announced a recall on a popular cereal made by Kellogg's. The cereal Honey Smacks has been linked to a salmonella outbreak affecting 33 states.

The CDC recently tweeted "Do not eat this cereal". No matter of the expiration date, they are telling consumers to throw away or return whatever cereal they have after they found salmonella in several samples of Honey Smacks.

This isn't really new news though, it has been a voluntary recall by Kellogg's since June.

At least thirty people who were infected by the outbreak have ended up in the hospital.

If you're curious on what happens when you're infected by Salmonella, people usually develop a fever, cramps, or diarrhea within 12 to 72 hours after being exposed to the bacteria. The illness could appear anywhere from four and seven days after eating the bad food.

  • The recalled Honey Smacks cereal has a “best if used by” date from June 14, 2018 - June 14, 2019.
  • The recalled 15.3 oz. Honey Smacks cereal's UPC code is 38000 39103.
  • The recalled 23.0 oz. Honey Smacks cereal's UPC code is 38000 14810.

It's better to be safe than sorry, so I would suggest just throwing it out! You can always get new when things get better! I love this cereal, I hope they solve the issue soon!
