Twitch Streamer Byron 'Reckful' Bernstein Dead At 31

Twitch icon Byron Bernstein has died. He was 31.

The beloved streamer and popular online gaming community figure reportedly died by suicide on Thursday (July 2). Bernstein's ex-girlfriend, who goes by "Blue," confirmed the heartbreaking news of his passing in a series of tweets.

"Someone I love killed themselves. I wish I could have said something to prevent it... whyyyyyy," she tweeted, before confirming it was Bernstein.

"Byron, I wish I could have helped you. We all do," Blue tweeted with a light-hearted video of the former couple. "I’m so sorry I couldn’t. Thank you for being a part of my life. Love you always."

Bernstein, known as "Reckful" by his fans, was an Israeli-American former professional Esports player lauded as one of the best World of Warcraft players around the globe. Before his death, he had garnered over 936,000 followers on the live-streaming gaming platform.

Twitter flooded with condolences and heartfelt tributes dedicated to the star, whose positive presence in the community was felt by many.

"Heartbroken. Still in shock, I've dreaded that this day could possibly come. RIP Byron, I love you," wrote rapper-comedian Andy Milonakis.

"I've been fortunate enough to know Reckful through the start of his career as the Rank 1 WoW Arena legend on BG9 and Compexity Red MLG esports champion, all the way through to being one of the most innovative streamers in Twitch history," wrote Rod "Slasher" Breslau. "Byron's legacy will never be forgotten."

"I was just talking to Reckful the other day... I didn't know that would be the last time I'd ever talk to him...." tweeted YouTube gamer ZeRo. "This f—king year is too much. I need a break I'm so done with this man."
