We all know that confidence will get you further in your career, and that it’s sexy, yet how much have you worked on being more secure in your own skin this week?
If the answer is none, no worries. Here are some phrases you can work on eliminating from your repertoire to help you at least sound less insecure.
● I don’t mean to brag, but… Overcompensating much? If you’re a routine bragger, you’re not fooling anyone. We all know you’ve got insecurities you’re trying to cover up for one “flossing” Instagram post at a time. In the words of Kendrick Lamar, “sit down,be humble.”
● Sorry to bother you… Let’s all agree to stop saying sorry so much. It’s a word that should be pulled out when necessary. Assertive people do not apologize every other minute.
● Could you maybe… You can be polite without throwing in the word maybe when you ask for something. That word only makes you come to us as nervous and turns the power over to the other person.
● I’m no expert but… First off, no one said you were. Second, when you start a sentence by basically saying “I am really unqualified,” it’s tough to blame anyone for brushing off whatever you say next.
● Just my opinion. We gathered from the fact that you cited no sources that whatever you said was your own opinion. This phrase only makes you come across as less confident about your ideas and lacking in conviction. Skip it.
