#WORK: How to QUIT without burning bridges!

With America getting back to normal, people are ready to start living their best lives. And that includes making the career change they’ve been putting off. Since quitting on bad terms can only stand to make your life harder, here are some tips on how to leave your job without burning bridges.

● Do Not Resign Over Slack Or Email. Regardless of how you currently might feel about your boss, the right thing to do is to schedule a meeting with your supervisor to break the news to them that you’re moving on. This needs to at the very least be a video call. Texting or emailing your resignation is simply disrespectful.

● “Leave Things Better Off Than When You Started.” It was good advice for when you were sleeping over at a friend’s house growing up and it’s what you should be doing when you quit your job as well. If you work for a small company make it as easy as you can on the person that will have to pick up the slack when you leave. This also includes giving more than a day’s notice that you’re moving on and not slacking off on your final few days.

● “Plan Ahead, And Be Vulnerable.” If you open up to your current boss about what is enticing you to leave, they just might make you an offer to keep you around. At the very least you will be letting them know you have no ill will towards them or their company and hopefully that will be enough to stay in a good light with them. The world is small and you’re likely going to cross paths once again. You’ll thank yourself later if you don’t make things awkward now.
